Je hebt 'r maandenlang naar uitgekeken (you have been looking out for months) De kouwe winter wou maar eerst niet om (cold winter wouldn't go away) Traag en langzaam kropen langs de weken (weeks passed by so slowly) Maar eindelijk daar was 'ie toch de zon (finally..we had SUN) De nachten kort de dagen lang (the nights were short, days were long) De ochtend vol van vogelzang (mornings full off birds singing) 't Scherpe hoge zoemen van een mug (the sharp high buzzing of a mousquito) Dan denk je, ha daar is-t-ie dan (then you start to think, there it is!!!) Dit wordt minstens een zomer van een eeuw (its gonna be a summer for a houndred years, at least) Maar lieve mensen, oh, wat gaat 't vlug (but, dear people, it passes so fast)
't Is weer voorbij die mooie zomer (summer has come to an end) Die zomer die begon zowat in mei (summer started in may) Ah, je dacht dat er geen einde aan kon komen (you thaught it would never end)
Maar voor je 't weet is heel die zomer alweer lang voorbij (but before you realise the summer's at an end) De wereld was toen vol van licht en leven (the world was full of light and living) Van haringgeur vermengd met zonnebrand (the smell of herring mixed with sunburn) 'n Parasol om 't felle licht te zeven (a sun umbrella to filter the strong light) En in je kleren schuurde zacht 't zand (your clothes that shed with sand) We speelden golf en jeu de boules (we played golf and "jeu de boules") We zonden zalig in een stoel (we were sunbathing in a chair) We dreven met een vlot op de rivier (we were floating on a river) We werden wekenlang verwend (for weekends , we were spoiled) Maar ach, aan alles komt 'n end (but, everythings got to end) Nu zit ik met m'n dia's in de regen hier (now i am sitting with my pictures here in the rain)
Herfst verkleurt weer langzaam alle bomen (autumn colors the trees) 'k Heb 's nachts allang weer m'n pyjama an (at night i wear pijamas) Dan had je es in juli moeten komen (in july that was different) Toen sliepen we 's nachts buiten op 't strand (we slept on the beach) En 's morgens vissen in de zon (in the mornings, we fished in the sun) En zwemmen zover als je kon (swimming as far as you could) We voeren met 'n boot 'n end op zee (sailing in the sea) 't Is jammer dat 't over ging (it's a pitty it's over) 't Is allemaal herinnering (everything's just a memory) Daar doen we 't dan de hele winter maar weer mee (something we can dream about whole winter long)
